NEW MEMBER APPLICATION Please contact the STBG Treasurer Brent Prins by emailing brent.prins@bigpond.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOUTHERN TASMANIA BILLYCART GROUP SPECIFICATION HANDBOOK The information in this Specification Handbook is true and accurate to the best of our knowledge and is yielded from years of successful racing and conducting events. This level of technology works in the real world. Simply put 'If it didn't make the cart faster, safer or more fun to drive it didn't stay on the Billycart'. We're not rocket scientists. What the STBG Members have is experience. The Information below works well. Your welcome to use our Specs and if your a newbie to participating in Gravity Racing we recommend you do. It's up to your Scrutineers to be vigilant when doing their job but also a degree of flexiblity is sometimes required. All recommendations on parts and procedures are made without any guarantees on the part of the author, the SOUTHERN TASMANIA BILLYCART GROUP. Scrutineering No Billycart or Driver shall commence practise or racing until Officially passed all Scrutineering requirements. Any Billycart may be rescrutineered by a Scrutineer or the STBG Tech Officer during the days racing. Age Categories (on the day) Soapbox 6+ Modified Soapbox 9+ All-Rounder 10+ Supercart 12+ WHEELS WHEELS must be commercially and commonly available in Australia. Only Steel or Alloy Rims and Hubs to be used. All spokes must round steel. No spoke covers or rotating wheel covers. You can build a wheel(s) up using a mix match of components but the components used must conform to the above. Wheel Size Maximums Soapbox 250mm Modified Soapbox 401mm All-Rounder 20" 406 or 451 sizes Supercart 27 x 1 1/4 TYRES & TUBES must be commercially and commonly available in Australia. Rubber based Tyres and Tubes only. Machining or buffing the tyres is acceptable. Carcass must not be exposed. AXLES must be all steel. Minimum thickness's are Soapbox 7.1mm Modified Soapbox 9.1mm All-Rounder 9.1mm Supercart 9.1mm. No sharp edges. BEARINGS all bearings must be steel. Ball or Roller is acceptable. BUSHINGS must be metallic. No Ceramics. STBG believes Billycart racing should be affordable family fun so no Ceramics and absolutely no Carbonfibre please. Brakes Soapbox drivers should have sturdy shoes for braking. All other class's may use bicycle caliper , vee-brakes, disc or drop down type that rubs on the roadway. Steering Rope steering only allowed in Soapbox. Steering type open in all other class's Beam Axle Minimum Pivot Bolt Sizes Soapbox 12mm Modified Soapbox 14mm All-Rounder 14mm Supercart 15mm Body may be made from sheet alluminium or steel, plastic, plywood or fibreglass. Body shapes are open. No points or sharp edges. Seat where fitted must be securely mounted. No sharp edges. Safety Harness / Seat Belt only mandatory on billycarts where the drivers head protrudes through the body. 4 or 5 point harness is recommended. Must be securely anchored. Protective Wear All drivers must present themselves attired in full length clothing for Scrutineering. Denim is recommended as a minimum. Leather gloves are mandatory. Helmets must be of a high standard and in be good condition. Bicycle helmets can be used in Soapbox class. All other class's must use motorcycle style of helmet. Open or Fullface is acceptable. See the STBG Tech Officer for variations and omissions. Exposed Trike drivers laying prone must wear a Spine Protector Safety Bar Usually fitted above the shins. 12.1mm OD minimum size. Where fitted Bar should be securely anchored and be well padded. 20mm Closed Cell Foam is good. Roll Over Bars must be used where the drivers head protrudes through the body work. Roll Over Bar Minimum spec 25 x 1.1mm OD Steel. Steel Aerotubing is acceptable. Composite Roll Over Bars must be at 25mm x 100mm wide. Shaped to a taper is fine. Must be securely anchored in 4 places. Top of Roll Over Bar must be 100mm above the drivers highest part of their helmet. Chassis May be constructed from steel, alumium, sturdy timber. Fibreglass over wood or foam like Klegicel or Divinecel forming a composite is acceptable. Stressed areas need to be 4 to 5 layers thick of 300 oz F/G. Non stressed areas should be 2-3 layers thick. Polester or Epoxy Resin is acceptable. Tow Hooks All carts must have front and rear 20 x 5mm Tow Hooks. Or an easy area for a tow rope to be attached. Wheel Base and Track Soapbox track Front / Rear maximum = 1450mm tyre centre to tyre centre. Soapbox track Front / Rear minimum = 650mm. Soapbox Wheelbase maximum = 1850mm Axle centre to axle centre. Modified Soapbox, All-Rounder and Supercart maximum front / rear track = 1770mm. Modified Soapbox, All-Rounder and Supercart minimum rear track = 400mm. Overall Body Length x Width Soapbox 2550mmx 1650mm wide. Modified Soapbox, All Rounder and Supercart 3010mm x 1970 including tow hooks . Total Maximum Weight Soapbox 50kg + or - 1kg for Scale Variation. Modified Soapbox 65kg All-Rounder 75kg Supercart 100kg. Ballast No additional ballast must be added during the course of an event. What the cart weighs in at Scrutineering must be what it weighs at the end of the days racing. Plus or minus .5 kg for scale variations. Mechanical and or Fluid aids are forbidden. Attachments like pendants decorations shall be subject Scrutineering approval. Deviation Rule 101 Anyone diviating from these specs must seek approval.
